Fliplife!

Ok. It's official. I am a sad geek with no life.

The warning signs were there when I declared my devotion to Real Park. But now there is no denying I have no real life... because I have a Fliplife!

I expect there are a few acronyms I could toss out at this point so that the cognoscenti would know exactly what sort of set up Fliplife is, but I've never played anything like this before so I don't know the lingo.

I've seen it described as a cross between The Sims and Farmville (I have only a vague knowledge of either, so I really couldn't say). Whatever it is, I'm enjoying it thoroughly!

The game play seems perplexingly pointless at first but as you progress it all starts to make sense and becomes deliciously challenging.

You choose a "career" and then work to gain "cash" and "flips", which can be spent in the "shop" (what self-respecting avatar doesn't want to be seen in the latest fashion?) , on "training" to increase your earning power or on recreational activities that allow you to regain energy and build endurance.

Working as part of a "team" builds your "friends" base; working with friends increases your bonuses - win-win!

I'm probably explaining this really badly but let's just say I'm totally addicted and I'm hoping you'll give it a try and get sucked in too. The more the merrier!

Update 6 Nov 11: Here's my personal invitation link. I'd love to see you there!

A walk in the Park

First of all, I should point out that a lot of the time I'm 50-something going on 12.

With that established, I want to tell you about my latest Favourite Thing.

For the longest time I've been scouring the internet for a 3D virtual reality to play with. Not one of those "games" where I'd have to kill monsters or race cars or scale sheer cliffs or do anything like that. Or do anything at all! Just somewhere that I could wander around and explore. Somewhere calm and restful and pleasant to be.

I've found it!

Real Park - free from Schillergames.

Wander around, ride the train, go for a swim, chat with other visitors to the park (or not - you can visit offline) or just sit on a bench, watch the sunset and listen to the birds twitter.

At the moment, all visitors are blue-jeaned males with their nicknames emblazoned on their white tops, but different characters and wardrobe options are in the pipeline.

Hope to see you there!

Know Thyself

Wandering the internet as I do, I regularly stumble across other peoples' avatars. I've always thought how nice it must be for them to have a little graphic Mini-Me that inhabits their cyber-world. I have coveted those avatars and have spent a fair bit of time working away on various avatar-creator websites in search of an image to call my own.

I have not been successful.

No matter how hard I tried, no matter how many noses and hairstyles I sampled, nothing I created bore the slightest resemblance to Me. Perhaps all those other avatars don't live up to their owners' expectations either. Perhaps they deliberately designed an "alter-ego" - a completely different and separate internet persona. Perhaps they just picked the best of a bad lot.

No, I have not been successful. Until now.

Yes, I have at last found perfection. The cartoon creation that captures my essence, my soul. The pixel portrait that would enable any of my readers to instantly recognise me should they ever pass me in the street.

And where did I discover the real me, you ask?

South Park.
I should have known.

You make my day!

All you fantastic bloggers out there - you really do make my day. I could spend, well, forever just snooping here and there, happily flitting from one intriguing/delightful/informative blog to the next.

And, apparently, this little old blog of mine makes Sus' day, 'coz she's selected it for one of her ten "You Make My Day" Awards. I'm well chuffed!

So now I get to share ten of my favourite bloggers with you all. Lord knows I visit and enjoy many more than that but if I have to limit myself to ten, well, here goes:

Back at ya, Sus! - and Alice, Annie, Crystal, Drew, Ernest, Laurie and Shula. You guys are the greatest!

And in the Rest In Peace section (sob!), the blogs that belonged to Scott and funny thing really used to make my day - miss you!!

We have games!

Well, one game so far, courtesy of LabPixies.

Reasonably intuitive - click on the first box and a green ball appears. Clicking again will change it to red, then blue, then pink. Repeat for all four boxes to choose your colour sequence, then click the "?". The black star score shows correct hits, the white star shows right colours in the wrong places.

Enjoy!

I'm It!

Good Lord, I've been tagged.

And while my
tagger was "totally excited" about having been tagged, my immediate reaction was panic. What if I have to answer some really embarrassing question/s? What if I can't think of anything? How long is this going to take? Oh, the pressure! I was relieved when I saw that it was the "7 Random Facts" meme but then Wave of Panic #2 - I don't think I know 7 bloggers to tag... All of which probably says something really sad about my personality {sigh}.

Anyway, I've had some chocolate to settle my nerves - deep breath, here goes:

The Meme

Those tagged must list 7 random facts about themselves. They also need to write in their blogs the rules of the game, which are pretty simple--you list your 7 facts, then list 7 people you are tagging. Then you leave them comments letting them know they've been tagged.

Here are my 7 random facts:

1) I can wiggle my eyes. Jiggle them back and forth really fast. Looks like I'm having a seizure. I've only met one other person who can do this (or, at least, only one other person who's admitted to it).

2) I've had one broken bone and two cuts that required stitches.

3) I don't like being with more than one person at a time.

4) I can count to 10 in 13 different languages.

5) I've been married 3 times. Third time's the charm - I've been with DH longer than all my other relationships put together.

6) I inherited the ability to tell fortunes from my maternal grandmother. I use tarot cards but she used ordinary playing cards (and read coffee grounds).

7) *** Censored ***

7) I have a tendency to be too forthcoming with personal information.

The seven people I am tagging are:

Ah.

Sus? She tagged me!
Tina? She's currently "between blogs".
Scott? He's in the middle of a major move.
Umm...
{sigh}

It's not easy being green

You Are Teal Green

You are a one of a kind, original person.
There's no one even close to being like you.
Expressive and creative, you have a knack
for making the impossible possible.
While you are a bit offbeat,
you don't scare people away with your quirks.
Your warm personality nicely counteracts
any strange habits you may have.

Green is my favourite colour. But teal is not my favourite green (paint me lime green any day). Oh well.

What Flower Are You?

I am a
Petunia

What Flower
Are You?

You are a tried and trusted friend who will be there for your friends when they need you. But you have a tendency to be nervous about doing things that go against the norm. (That would be my norm, not normal people's norm.)

This is fun

A friend of mine, with a quirky sense of humour similar to my own, sent me a "talking" e-card courtesy of Bud Light*. Oh, it did make I larf. And naturally, I had to start sending my own creations to all and sundry.

Then I thought, hey, I could link to one from here. So, for all my adoring fans out there (and you know who you are), here's a special message from me to you. Luv ya!

(*not affiliated, just appreciative)
